Medi-Cal Enrollment
Medi-Cal is California’s Medicaid public health insurance program. Medi-Cal provides free or low-cost medical services for children and adults with limited income (and limited resources for some Medi-Cal programs). It is supported by federal and state taxes. Book your appointment here or submit your own application here, it only takes 10 minutes.
Who can receive Medi-Cal?
Starting January 1, 2026, some adults will no longer qualify for full-scope Medi-Cal.
Adults age 19 or older who are not pregnant and are undocumented or without satisfactory immigration status may qualify only for restricted Medi-Cal, which covers emergency, pregnancy-related, and nursing home care. These changes apply to new applications only. Current members will keep coverage if they renew on time. Green card holders will remain eligible to full scope benefits if all other requirements are met. Individuals with work permits will fall under the unsatisfactory immigration status and can be approved for emergency services if all other requirements are met.
Adults age 65 and older, people with disabilities, and some families over income limits must now meet asset requirements. Countable assets include bank accounts, cash, and property, such as more than one home or vehicle.
Here is the list of unsatisfactory immigration status (UIS) that do not meet eligibility status for full scope medi-cal:
- You do not have a status or do not have an immigration status recognized by Medi-Cal.
- You have DACA.
- You are in the U.S. on a visitor visa, student visa, or temporary work visa (unless under age 21).
- You have applied for a U visa (but it hasn’t been granted yet).
- You were paroled into the U.S. for less than one year.
